EyeBuddy began as a bold idea inside the University of Toronto — not as a tech startup, but as a mission. Since 2022, we’ve grown from a student-led initiative into a globally recognized ophthalmology AI company working across Canada, South Asia, and now expanding into the UK.
From the start, EyeBuddy has stood apart. We're not here to build generic AI. We are focused solely on ophthalmology— because vision is everything, and it deserves our full attention. We partner directly with hospitals to tailor technology to their needs, ensuring that every project delivers real impact. And we never forget those most in need – through our eye camps in underserved regions, we bring sight-saving care to those who need it most.
A Message from the CEO – Pradipta Chowdhury
"Since I was five years old, I’ve dreamed of becoming an ophthalmic surgeon — of giving vision back. My childhood was spent in the corridors of eye hospitals, watching surgeries that changed lives in moments. That passion never left me."
"At university, I discovered a second love: technology and entrepreneurship. I realized I didn’t have to choose between the two. I could use one to strengthen the other."
"What struck me most was the inequity — that vision care was expensive, specialized, and often out of reach. I saw how people in rural areas, or those without money, quietly went blind. Vision loss is often invisible until it’s too late."
"That’s why I built EyeBuddy — to create AI tools that work with doctors, not around them, to detect eye diseases early and guide patients to real treatment. From urban clinics to remote villages, for the wealthy and the underserved — we believe no one should lose sight because of where they live or what they earn."
"Our AI now supports private hospitals, national eye institutes, and nonprofit vision camps. And we’re just getting started."
